Markus Varesvuo - Tufted Ducks at moonrise
A late March spring evening sees Tufted Ducks (Aythya fuligula) preparing for the night along the sea ice. The full moon is rising from the Archipelago Sea, a pink ghost on the sky with the setting sun’s light still strong enough to keep the night darkness at bay. The birds are resting and feeding before continueing on their migration north towards the breeding grounds.
