Niall Benvie - Slovenian toadstool

Ok, for once I’m not ashamed to say that I don’t know the name of this Slovenian toadstool with its spores dusting the surrounding leaves like caster sugar. I grew up with my nose stuck in field guides so that I often recognise plants (in particular) from having studied pictures of them decades before. And knowing the names of my “neighbours” always makes me feel at home in a place, whether on a sub-arctic tundra or in a warm alpine forest where this was found. Perhaps that is why the tropics holds so little appeal to me; I just couldn’t be doing with all that unfamiliarity. It’s disorientating. I have no place being there.

But this toadstool, incompletely keyworded, familiar yet without a name, is a pebble in my shoe. Can anyone relieve me of my ignorance? Perhaps the veil on the stem will help to narrow it down?
