Werner Bollmann - Winter Flight

Under the harsh conditions of winter capercaillies avoid to fly more than absolutely necessary. But sometimes they have to change their feeding trees in order to find fresh birch buds or pine needles, their main source of food at this time of the year. When the nights become extremely cold they leave the trees and dig holes into the snow, which offers them a little isolation.
