	<title>Bruno D&#039;Amicis - Bear shadow</title>
	<link>http://www.naturephotoblog.com/index.php?showimage=907</link>

		On a evening in May, after a long day of waiting and when hope was already lost, His majesty, the endangered Marsican brown bear, made his appearance in the mountain meadow. Unfortunately, the sun had already already set since a while and light was fading quickly; soon I could barely distinguish the outline of the bear. As there was no chance for a sharp picture, I started experimenting a little, which is something I rarely have the luxury to do with skittish Italian wildlife. The camera autofocus was useless; the viewfinder was almost completely dark and so I focused manually on a bright stone near the bear and blindly panned the lens as this moved. What came out are some noisy and blurred images, of course, which don&#039;t give justice to the animal itself but surely represent more faithfully my perception of that lucky encounter.

		Horsetails always attracted me with their interesting stems, leaves and sporophylls. The Swamp Horsetail (Equisetum fluviatile) is very common in the reed beds of Scandinavian lakes. Especially backlight situations show the beautiful structures of these archaic herbs to advantage.

		Today is the Norwegian National Day. This is the day we celebrate our constitution and our great nation. I feel privileged to be born in Norway, in so many ways. We have our freedom and stability, we have a secure economy with jobs for everyone and we have plenty of space and unspoiled nature. So today we celebrate how lucky we are..., but are we taking all this for granted? Do we really know how lucky we are, and what obligations follow with this privilege? I think not. Over and over again we see how economic growth and wealth rampage our natural heritage to feed our constant need for more and more - and we end up with less.

	<title>Emmanuel Boitier - Cap Blanc Nez</title>
	<link>http://www.naturephotoblog.com/index.php?showimage=975</link>

		&lt;img src=&quot;http://www.naturephotoblog.com/thumbnails/thumb_20130514222626__dsc5855.jpg&quot;&gt;&lt;br/&gt;
		Cap Blanc Nez (literally &quot;Cape White Nose&quot; in English) is a cape on the Côte d&#039;Opale, in northern France. The cliffs of chalk are very similar to the white cliffs of Dover at the other side of the Channel in England. Cap Blanc Nez does not protrude into the sea like a typical cape, but is a high point where a chalk ridge has been truncated by the sea, forming a cliff that is topped by an obelisk commemorating the Dover Patrol which kept the Channel free from U-boats during World War I. The headland&#039;s name is actually a French deformation of an original English name, Black Nen, deriving from the time when Calais was under English rule, and therefore its original meaning is Cape Black Nose.
