Alex Mustard - Hairball

Alex Mustard - Hairball

There are few places to hide, exposed on the open volcanic sand slopes that drop down into the depths of the Lembeh Strait in North Sulawesi. It is a habitat that favours extreme adaptation, where close inspection reveals that algae covered rocks are not what they first appear. This is actually the hairy form of a striated frogfish (Antennarius striatus) that sits camouflaged fishing for prey with its worm shaped lure.

I used an ultra wide 8mm Panasonic fisheye to create a wide angle macro view of this creature and its habitat.
