Alex Mustard - Lady In Red
A young golden damselfish peeks out from between the red branches of a whip coral, on a coral reef in Raja Ampat, Indonesia. Youngsters favour this mirco-habitat for the protection it affords them. I took this photo with crossed flashes to illuminate only the first part of the coral and not the reef behind, so that I could get a simpler composition.
While many reef fish spawn eggs into the water column, damselfish lay eggs on the reef and then guard them until they hatch.
