Alex Mustard - Icelandic Fracture

Alex Mustard - Icelandic Fracture

This photo is from 2011, but I'll be in Iceland again when this goes live on NPB. This is a view through a narrow underwater canyon ripped apart by Iceland's tectonic forces.

I usually show images of these canyons with a diver in the picture to give this alien environment a sense of scale. This is one of my less well known images, free from people. The glacial spring water is wonderfully clear, but also a little chilly. At least you can drink it as you swim through it! Nes Canyon, near Husavik, north west Iceland.

Location: Husavik, Iceland

Photo info - 06.05.2011: NIKON D700, 16 mm, ISO 800, f 11, 1/30 sec
