Bruno D'Amicis - The rut

If there is one thing I love about living in the mountains is the seasonal cycles. Every year the same, every year different, seasons bring their changes and nature responds with its phenology. More than the morning chills and the nocturnal mist, one thing that surely marks the end of summer in the Apennines is the red deer bellows. At the end of August, the first stags reach their mountain arenas where they will compete until October or even later. As soon as I hear the first one, I get all excited: the rut has started.
