Niall Benvie - The stonechat and the invisible trampoline
The Hebridean island of Islay has been experiencing a bit of a drought this spring while the rest of the country drowns. Indeed, for only the second time in 50 years, Islay’s famous distilleries have had to stop production through lack of water. On the plus side, the kind weather has brought out enormous numbers of insects keeping stonechats, amongst other insectivores well fed. This male was in the process of taking flight from a stone wall near Loch Gruinart – a picture resulting more through luck than good judgement.
