Bruno D'Amicis - Spring cleaning

On a May afternoon a Lilford’s white-backed woodpecker (Dendrocopus leucotos lilfordi) male checks the nest hollow located on a large beech tree. Dead standing trees of the vast and old beech forests of the Central Apennines are the main feature of this rare bird’s habitat.
