Zoltán Gergely Nagy - Hunter of the forest

In late April I had a chance encounter with a Ural Owl, that didn’t seem to notice my presence. Just a short wait revealed that the owl was hunting to feed it’s 4 chicks that were on the trees nearby. Hidden in the bushes I had followed their lives for a few days in a row. In order to feed all the little ones, the owl had to hunt around the clock and I was surprised to see just how difficult it was to catch mice during the day. It’s success rate was around 2 mice out of 10 pounces in a 5 hour period.
