Alex Mustard - Hunting On The Wreck

A pair of bar jacks (Caranx ruber) hunting silversides (Atherinidae) around the wreck of the USS Kittiwake. The wreck always has schools of these small fish sheltering in her hold, but in the summer months, when this picture was taken, their numbers really bloom.

Last time I posted a picture of bar jacks on NPB, there was a great comment on my photo, saying that the bar jack can eat up to 7% of its body weight per day. Which explains why the silverside numbers quickly fall down again at the end of the summer!
