Theo Bosboom - White-out at lava beach

The black lava beach near the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon on Iceland has become one of the hot spots for nature and landscape photography in Europe, during all seasons of the year. Although the increasing popularity can take away some of the magic, especially on very busy days, it remains an icredible place to be and to take pictures and I still fully enjoy each single visit. The main challenge is of course to come with fresh views and that is not easy at all. But when a blizzard hit the beach on a cold winter morning this February it was suprisingly quiet and the conditions were very challenging, providing opportunities for shots that have not been made that often yet. I waited for moments when large amounts of snow where blowing over the iceblocks, partly obscuring the view and making everything look fluid.
