Werner Bollmann - Residents

In former times the kittiwakes used to leave their breeding sites in wintertime as other inhabitants of the birdcliffs, like puffins, razorbills or gannets, still do nowadays. But since winters get milder and milder many of them stay close to their breeding grounds all year round. Those which do not migrate gain an edge over their conspecifics as they are the first ones to choose the best breeding spots in spring.
