Roy Mangersnes - Arctic Summer

I have already been one month in Svalbard this summer, and I still have six more weeks to go. What other place would you like to be? Obviously the Arctic summer is not warm and comfortable as in other parts of Europe, but it gives me so much more. Wildlife is numerous, and the midnight sun makes it hard to go to bed. Everything happens at the same time up here. All birds are breeding during the short summer months, the flowers are rushing to produce seeds and insects are all swarming at the same time to secure the survival of the species. As a wildlife photographer I feel more like the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland; constantly running to keep up with the pace of the Arctic summer.
