Roy Mangersnes - Bearded Seal on ice

For the first time we went on an early June trip to Svalbard this year to work with wildlife on ice. In the last couple of years the ice conditions have changed a lot and now we are able to go far north even in the beginning of June. Just five years ago we could not go this far in mid July. The conditions were perfect on our trip and we had good Polar Bears and courting seabirds. Walruses were on their beaches and we even had a couple of beautiful Bearded Seals on ice floes. It is such a great feeling to be sitting in a dingy, one o’clock in the morning, just a few meters from this amazing creature. and in this pristine scenery. In a couple of weeks I will be back again, and I can not wait!
