Roy Mangersnes - David and Goliath

At the moment I am on a boat in the north of Svalbard (if not, something went terribly wrong…). Therefore I chose to post this one image from my previous trip up here, when I had the amazing privilege of watching the battle between a Polar Bear and a young Glacious Gull – because it was a battle. The bear caught the bird on the water and chased it to the shore. The bird, on the other hand, was a fighter and bit the large predator in the nose, the eye and on his lip. After a long “fight” the bear gave up and the young gull jumped into the rocks to hide. Eventually he probably died, but he went down kicking.
