Roy Mangersnes - Jungle butterfly

I have spent some tim win Bolivia and really enjoy the diversity of this under-exposed country. I have worked at altitudes above 5000 meters in the Andean mountains, and in dense jungles. The Madidi Mosaic is one of the most bio-diverse places on our planet. I chased wild pigs, jaguars and monkeys. I saw hundreds of bird species and bugs – lots of bugs. On of my favorite species to see was the large Owl butterfly. It was like a shimmering blue silk scarf floating over the dark forest floor, crossing river beds and disappearing as quickly as it came.

Roy, I have been in the rain forest and have been trying to chase butterflies along streams, so I got to learn how hard it is. This is a fabulous image, both for its beauty and difficulties. Hat off!
P.S. I'd love to hear more details about it...

Thanks you guys, glad you like it.

Bruno; It seemed these large butterflies found minerals on this dried up river bed and there were three or four of them hanging around. They were sitting on the rocks "licking". I approached them slowly with my camera on manual focus as close as possible (as with your amazing mamba encounter!). When they moved I fired a few shots. A couple of them came out quite nicely. This was the best one.
