Sven Začek - Common can be beautiful

Many times I have to respond to a request for a common species with the words: “I am sorry, I do not have pictures of (insert the species here)”. If it was a request for wild wolves mating or howling towards the full moon, then I suppose there would be no shame in not having taken such photos. Yet. But if the request is for species like the crow, jackdaw, magpie, great tit etc, then I start wondering why haven’t I taken pictures of these birds. I like birds and bird photography very much and these species are always in my sight. How is the story with you guys? Do you also have much more pictures of eagles, hawks, owls and other much harder to find speices, than of those that you see all the time?

We’d love you to comment on our photographs. If you can, please do so in English. And as we are here under our own names, we’d appreciate if you would do the same when commenting.

You're completely right! I don't have a single picture of a sparrow, but several of African weavers. One should think about it. And, moreover, this is a really nice one!

Beautiful! I"ll take photos of any bird I can "get my hands on." I just took a photo Saturday of a chick-a-dee and posted to my blog. It is one of my favorites, and I titled it "All Day Long" because I could look at it all day long:)

I shoot more of the common species... Lovely shot of this tit in flight.

Thanks for this. You have a very cool site! Can I ask a question – in working out a maitnkreg campaign what do you take into account (apart from your budget).
