Alex Mustard - Lone Shark
For my first image, I decided pick something from my archive (hereafter I’ll choose current photos). Anyway, this photo is one of the rare few (for me) that has both competition success (WPOTY) and has sold strongly as a print and in editorial and advertising. If only they were all like that!
It is also an image, that I have often used to represent the plight of sharks, which are fished in many 100,000s each year just for their fins. The lonely shark in this minimalist composition seems more much vulnerable than a classic shark in your face portrait. Not that I was thinking of all that when I shot this!
