Roy Mangersnes - light on the Gorilla

Visiting the Virunga Volcanos National Park in Rwanda, and getting close to the Mountain Gorillas was one of my best experiences as a wildlife photographer. Finding the animals and getting close was very easy. Working with them moving about in dense jungle was another issue. Every now and then they would sit down long enough for me to get my shots.

A strong and expressive image of a species seriously threatened by us (as a species!). The incidence of light on the eyes and the expression "almost human" of the look makes us really feel that we are not alone on this planet and we have a responsibility to preserve it as long as possible ... Seeing this picture, I believe strongly that it was one of your best photographic experience! Congratulations

Wow....what a great experience to see and photograph these species (primates). I totally agree with Joao and hope that they will survive. Beautiful light on the eyes and a strong composition: great shot!

Great moment to have the sporlight and the gorilla looking up towards it.
