Theo Bosboom - Landmannalaugar after sunset

Landmannalaugar is the colourful heart of Iceland and a popular destination for both tourists and photographers. I visited the area for the first time in 2006 and fell in love with it immediately. This summer I had the chance to go back and to spend one week in the area. Although the weather was typically Icelandic (meaning a lot of rain and wind) and my camping gear (especially my lightweight outdoor matress) was not fully adequate for the cold nights up there (which I know is a stupid mistake after more than 10 trips to Iceland), I enjoyed it thoroughly. This picture was taken from the top of the mountain Blahnukur, from where you have a great view over the area. The light was beautiful, about half an hour after sunset.

Wow, it's like fairytale land. Beautiful soft colours and the cloud matches perfect. Your 'mistake' was it worth!

I think the msot amazing colors appear around one hour after sunset or one hour before sunrise. Then the light has this special quality. Especially if the sky has some clouds to mix up the reflecting light from the clear sky. And when you are in a place like this then life is good :) I also had a chance to visit this aera and I know what you mean about the weather. The clouds and rain usually like to hang around near the mountains.
