Werner Bollmann - Close Relatives

To work with these fascinating animals in the hot and humid jungle of Borneo was one of the most exciting things I have ever experienced. Especially the intimate and tender connection between the female orang-utans and their children really touched my heart. But they are losing their home, the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. Their world is vanishing, faster than we can imagine. I’m afraid that there soon will be a world without orang-utans.

A very sad story, but a beautiful, intimate portrait.

Such pictures with stories are very important to raise awareness. Sadly the people in the developed world can understand, but people living in the actual places have to worry about filling their and their childerns stomach with something that we call food. So it is more difficult to get the message across to them.
