Werner Bollmann - After the storm

A heavy snowstorm just had calmed down when I found this harp seal pup that was miserably shouting for it’s mother. Obviously it was extremely hungry. I approached slowly and all of a sudden it looked at me over it’s back. A lovely moment that only lasted for seconds. Some minutes later the storm came on again and our group had to dash to the helicopter to leave the packice immediately.

How cute is this? And the light is stunning. You got to love the crispness of light when a storm clears. There's nothing else like it.

I have seen this shot before and I always look twice when I see it. There is a very appealing coolness to it, both in the light and in the animal. It is like you feel sorry for the poor creature, but at the same time you know that this is were it is made to live - it thrives in the cold arctic. Great shot with essence

Snow's different shades and sharpish forms; model with round curves who looks like he/she jumped out of a cartoon and is covered with sugar, black eyes demanding you look into them...

Damn, do I sound like wine reviewer now?
