Meelis Kivirand - Early comers

Early in spring migratory birds return to their nesting places. First of these are Northern Lapwings. Their dish is covered in deep snow and there is nothing left to do but wait for the snow to melt. And it is like this here already for two years in a row.

    complete reduction. :)
like the way they look into the same direction ...
the image feels quite empty but still works in an unusal way.

It looks like a postcard from the beginning of the 20th century: nice! I can almost feel they are waiting for the spring to come!

Yesterday I saw the first starlings, lapwings and herons of this spring. It is nice that the sounds are returning to the nature. I hope one day when the melting gets really intense the same kind of fog will form like on this picture.

These guys for me form the front line of a scout party -- once they voice their suspicions, almost all the birds listen. Here they seem kinda notes in the music - in a way diminishing the importance of their voice that it actually has in nature.
