Roy Mangersnes - Arctic Blues

I love the Arctic! There, I said it. Well, I guess I am not alone, but I just really felt like saying it out loud. Even when I go to the deserts of Africa or the jungle of South-America I wish I was in the Arctic. It is something about the mood of this vast place, dominated by ice and the color blue… Arctic blues. This image was taken one late evening on a small island infront of the massive Monaco Glacier on Spitsbergen. I think it somehow shows the dynamics of the glaciers up here. It was almost as I could see how it moved towards me, a tiny photographer in the greatest landscape of all. I was small but I was happy.

No, you are not alone. I am also very much in love with the Northern nature and such a scene just make me want to go there straight away. Hopefully some day I will stand in the same place and witness this awesome sight.

Majestic, primeval, wild! You are in love with the Arctic, I am in love with the mountains and perfectly understand you. I like the grandeur, which gives us the right dimension.

If you put some more pics like these up here, I'll trade my 'palms trees and sun' family vacation to 'cold region photography (no family) trip' soon.

Beatiful texture in the foreground, and nice the way the fog adds depth to the photo!
